Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-Modified (also known as PETG, PETE or PET to its friends) hits something of a middle ground between acrylic and polycarbonate and therefore it is probably best to look at it in relation to the two, as well as independently. Needless to say if PETG is capable of going up against these two heavyweights, there is no comparison between it and glass; not only is PETG far more sturdy, it is also transparent, easy to fabricate and can be printed on with very little hassle.

Like acrylic, PETG is 100% recyclable and can be used to produce or manufacture a wide range of goods. Capable of being sterilised, it's a renowned food safe material, which thanks to the cost effective means that we have of producing it and the ease with which it can be fabricated, means that it is often used as a container for foods, soft drinks and other liquid beverages.

Naturally colourless and clear, a wide number of colours can be added to PETG as it is processed, and it can also be injection moulded or extruded as a sheet. PETG is a Thermoplastic, which means that it can be shaped and reshaped over and over again by simply heating it up. It's important to note that this process causes absolutely no degradation to the material itself, allowing it to be recycled and repurposed indefinitely.

PETG's damage resistance is far higher than that of acrylic, to the point that it rivals the impact resistance of Polycarbonate (which has an impact resistance 30 times that of glass). Unlike Polycarbonate however, PETG can be fabricated easily, making it an easy material for DIY practitioners and professional craftsmen to work with.

In addition to being a prominent material in the food and beverage industry, PETG is also popular in the construction, medical and manufacturing industries, due to the qualities mentioned above. It is often used to fabricate point-of-purchase stands, exhibition kiosks and other types of retail displays; and as a result of its strength, durability, colour range and printable surface, it has garnered a good reputation as a reliable signage material.
