Kitchen & Bathroom Splashbacks

Splashbacks

Splashbacks are a sheet of material that is used to cover walls in bathrooms and kitchens. They are designed to protect the wall behind baths, sinks or stoves from water and food splashes which helps to minimise any potential damage to your walls. Splashbacks can be used to add colour and texture to a space and can be used to complement the overall aesthetic of a room. The simple installation process of splashbacks makes it an easy project for both at home DIYers and professional kitchen fitters and its exceptional durability makes it a statement piece that will last for years to come. With the ease of installation, paired with the interior design benefits, splashbacks are a perfect option for any home.

Types of Splashbacks

At Cut Plastic Sheeting, we offer cut-to-size Acrylic or Aluminium Composite splashbacks that are suitable for both kitchens and bathrooms. Both materials have similar qualities in that they are easy to work with, install and maintain and that is why they are such popular material choices for splashbacks.

Acrylic Splashbacks

Acrylic splashbacks are the cheaper alternative to Aluminium Composite but that doesn’t mean they lack exceptional qualities:

  • Lightweight
  • Simple to fit
  • Easy to clean
  • Large colour range
  • Smooth flat surface

Dibond Aluminium Composite

ACM splashbacks are a great option if you need them to be used behind a kitchen gas hob or a direct heat source.

  • BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 Fire Rating
  • Non-corrosive
  • Low thermal expansion
  • Rigid yet lightweight material
  • Highly resistant to damage

Acrylic v Glass Splashbacks

Splashbacks can come in various types of materials but more recently, people have been switching from traditional glass to acrylic. Take a look at some of the main points as to why:

Price: Acrylic is generally cheaper than glass.

Durability and Maintenance: Toughened Glass Splashbacks are relatively strong, but they can still crack when knocked whereas Acrylic is shatterproof. Glass is also prone to collecting dust and fingerprints whereas acrylic does not attract dust and therefore stays cleaner for longer.

Installation: Glass is a heavy material which makes it more difficult during the installation process. Acrylic on the other hand is lightweight and strong so it makes it easy to handle and fit into place.

Splashbacks v Tiles

Tiles and splashbacks are both types of finishes that can be used in kitchen and bathroom designs. Tiles are thin, flat pieces of ceramic or stone where are splashbacks are sheets of flat material.

One of the most common reasons people are moving from traditional tiles to splashbacks is maintenance and cleaning. The grouting in tiling needs to be regularly cleaned and due to the groves between each tile, it can become long-winded and tedious. However, Acrylic or Aluminium Composite splashbacks have a continuous flat surface, which makes them so much easier to clean with just warm soapy water.
