Melamine is a type of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) that is covered with a white or black laminate. Due to the flat and professional finish of the surface, it is a perfect building material used for both DIY interior design projects and commercial environments for office furniture. Melamine has similar qualities to standard MDF such as high durability and excellent strength.

What types of melamine are there?

At Cut Plastic Sheeting, we offer three different variations of melamine MDF:

Is Melamine Moisture Resistant?

The laminate surface of Melamine MDF makes it a moisture-resistant material so it can be suitable for external use.

What size are melamine boards available in?

Our melamine boards are available in a maximum sheet size of 2440 mm x 1220 mm / 8ft x 4ft and are available to cut to custom size and shape.

How do you manufacture Medium Density Fiberboards?

MDF is produced by mixing hardwood and softwood fibres and then combining them with resin and pressing down to make a flat dense sheet.

MDF v Plywood

Plywood is usually stronger than MDF but it is a more expensive material. They are both very similar so it really comes down to the application of the material. If you are wanting material for indoor applications, MDF sheets are the preferred choice but for anything external, it is best to use Plywood due to its weather-resistant capabilities.

MDF v Particle Board

Particle Boards are a slightly less expensive material compared to MDF but it is not nearly as strong. Due to this, MDF has a higher density and is more durable.
