Different Names for Acrylic Sheets

Acrylic sheets are widely known by several names in the market. The most common name is Perspex in the UK and Plexiglass in America.

Our competitors may offer comparable products under different brand names, including Deglas, Versato, Paraglas, Altuglas, Vitredil, Vedril, Oroglas, Lucryl, Ispaglas, Crilux, and Casocryl.

No matter the name, acrylic sheets offer exceptional clarity, strength, and versatility for a wide range of applications.

Cast vs Extruded Acrylic

When it comes to acrylic sheets, there are two main types: cast and extruded. These are also known as GS acrylic (cast) and XT acrylic (extruded).

During production, the liquid acrylic is poured out of the reactor to form sheets. Cast acrylic is poured into a flat sheet, while extruded acrylic is rolled into thinner thicknesses after pouring. This process allows for a larger surface area to be produced using less raw material, resulting in a more cost-effective price point. For this reason, extruded acrylic is sometimes referred to as “budget acrylic.”

While both types of acrylic sheets offer exceptional clarity, strength, and durability, they have different properties that may make one more suitable for your specific application than the other. Consider your needs and consult with an expert to choose the best type of acrylic sheet for your project.

Delivery of Acrylic Sheets

At Cut Plastic Sheeting, we understand the importance of safe and efficient delivery for our customers. We offer cut-to-size acrylic sheets, which means that we cater to a wide range of sizes, from small 5cm squares to massive 2-meter by 3-meter panels. This presents some challenges in terms of packaging and shipping. However, we take great care in protecting all the different sheets we ship. Each sheet is packaged with frames and protective bubble wrap to safeguard the edges from chips and smashes, as well as the surfaces from scratches. Depending on the size of the order, we can ship with normal couriers such as DPD or Royal Mail. However, for larger orders, we must ship via pallets and specialised delivery services, which can be more costly as we are purchasing pallet space on a lorry. Our aim is to ensure your acrylic sheet order is delivered safely and in a timely manner, regardless of the size or quantity of your order.

Yes, acrylic is very strong and lightweight, making it perfect for use as secondary glazing. Acrylic of 3mm+ is ideal, but thickness should be increased for larger panels. Please contact us should you need any further advice.

We recommend CT1 Sealant, it is the only product in the market with TRIBRID® Technology, making it 360% stronger than a traditional Hybrid Polymer.

If your sheet is thicker, fine-toothed handsaws are recommended for smaller jobs, the acrylic should be securely clamped and only light pressure applied. Power saws with alternate bevelled teeth are suitable, especially band saws, jig saws and fret saws. Blades designed to cut aluminium or copper are appropriate for use with acrylic. Should you not wish to cut the sheeting yourself, we are happy to cut your plastic sheet at only a small cost.
