Our secondary glazing kit contains a perspex acrylic sheet that is fitted and sealed onto an existing window frame with magnetic brown tape. Clear Perspex acrylic, also known by the trademarks of Perspex® Lucite, Altuglas and Plexiglass, is championed as a lightweight, strong and durable alternative to glass. It is as much as ten times more resistant to impact than glass and has optical clarity with excellent UV stability.
There are so many benefits that come with installing secondary glazing and it is a cost-effective solution that can be used in homes, offices and heritage properties. Benefits of secondary glazing include:
- Heat insulation: As the acrylic sheet acts as an additional barrier when it is sealed it helps with heat retention whilst blocking any cold draughts coming into the property
- Noise Reduction: Having an additional barrier, also helps to prevent any external noise from travelling inside the property
- Cost Saving: One of the main benefits is that it is a great cost-saving solution to lowering your energy bills. As heat is retained, you won’t need to continuously have the heating on your property.
FAQ’s Secondary Glazing:
Is Clear Acrylic and Perspex the same thing?
‘Clear acrylic’ is also known by the trade names of Lucite, Altuglas, Plexi Glass and Plexiglass. Clear Cast Acrylic is commonly known as Perspex, please view our blog to understand the difference between Perspex® and Acrylic.
How to install secondary glazing DIY?
Secondary glazing is simple to install and can be completed in a few easy steps, take a look at our handy fitting guide here: How to install your Magnetic Secondary Glazing Kit
How to measure your secondary glazing panels?
It is important to get an accurate measurement of your window as we cut the sheet of acrylic to your specific size. All you need to do is measure the length and width of the window pane. Unique windows may require extra bespoke designs, so please keep this in mind.
Why is the maximum size 1000mm x 1000mm?
As the kit uses brown magnetic strips, it is not strong enough to hold acrylic panels that have dimensions in excess of 1000mm (1 metre).
How to order cut-to-size secondary glazing?
Once you have your required dimensions, check out our product page and enter in your thicknesses and dimension in either mm, cm or inches to get an instant online quote. If you are happy with our competitive pricing, simply proceed to the checkout.
Do we only supply brown magnetic tape?
We currently only offer magnetic tape in a brown colour. If you wish to source the tape yourself, we can offer just the cut-to-size acrylic panel.
Please note: The 2mm thickness option may not sit flat on larger windows, so we recommend 5mm which has enough rigidity to sit completely flat and be almost indistinguishable from glass.
